No Heart
Only two songs left! No Heart was a tricky one to get finished. We wEren’t entirely sure how it was going to pan out, and after we worked on it at the cabin, we actually forgot about it until we had to go into the studio. The result of that confusion is one of the most segmented, yet hardest hitting songs we’ve ever written.
This one began as a file on my computer called “Ambient Iris”, not because it was based on the Goo Goo Dolls song, but because my original demo was made up almost entirely of sounds from the iZotope Iris synth, which takes samples and manipulates them into synth-type sounds. I ended up keeping some of those sounds, but the evolution of this one went such a different way than we were expecting. It changes keys in the middle of the song, doesn’t really have a pop song structure like most of the others, and ends with the most blatant “indie rock” breakdown we could possibly muster. Lyrically, it deals with a hypothetical situation where the narrator is purposefully wasting time before going to do something they’ve been dreading (which was partly inspired by real experiences, but it’s a bit of a stretch). The chorus is literally a person telling themselves all the reasons why they’ll keep putting off this thing. It’s essentially a condensed fit of anxiety in song form.
This one really ended up being a wild ride, so I hope you love it in all of its synthed-out weirdness. See you next time for the end of the album!

Lyrics
End the night I was falling through
What’s the question I’m tethered to again?
I’ll stay away as long as you want me to
I’ll keep delaying my point of view
I won’t leave home, I’ll leave
My mind to roam, find
New hair to comb, all
New stains, new clothes
No heart, sit still, get up
Third hour, third pill, watch
Paint dry, my thrill, just
More time I’ll kill
I’m not here
He’s my ghost
Make it clear
The clock won’t slow
I’m not here
If you want me you can come and find me
I’ll be in the place I fall into when I know no one else is coming for me
